OFTW SIMONSIDE FLICK
Simonside Flick (Fern) is the Springer Spaniel with which Peter is currently competing. Born in 2002 she was a very keen and quick learner which was demonstrated by an early novice win in 2003 at only 16 months of age.
In
November 2004 Fern continued her winning streak with an excellent
performance at the Kennel Club Open Stake on a testing ground
in very heavy cover. Here her reputation as one of the countries
top hunting spaniels was earned and a wonderful write up in the
Kennel Gazette followed.
This win at the Kennel Club open AV Spaniel field trial qualified Fern to run at the 2005 AV Spaniel Championship. Two days of hunting and retrieving in terrible conditions saw Fern successfully complete the trial but unfortunately she just missed out on the awards.
In 2005 Fern also had her first competitive outings on dummies. Working tests for spaniels are much more difficult than working on game but Fern's excellent natural hunting ability stood her in good stead and she earned a well deserved third place at the Beta Gundog Weekend, where she was scored as the top hunting dog. She was also chosen to represent England at the CLA Game Fair.
